She added that despite the fact that her participation in Dexter was always planned to last for 4 episodes only, but she likes to convince herself that the audience loved her and they want her back in order to have her much needed closure. She stated that on Heroes, she was also planned to appear on 2 episodes only, but they loved her and that’s why her participation in Heroes was extended up to 17 episodes.

However, the president of the Showtime channel, David Nevins, was quick to defend the drama series. According to him, the brewing Dexter and Deb romantic team-up was already in the offing. Although Deb plays the role of an adoptive sister, thus making her biologically unrelated to Dexter, Nevins understood the “certain taboo” that viewers and critics subscribe to. But he pointed that it was “something that has been building over a number of years.”

During the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) press tour, Nevins further asserted that Deb’s unraveling of Dexter’s dark side in the season finale was necessary as a “trajectory for the next two seasons”.

“There should be a fundamentally different dynamic now that Deb [knows about Dexter] and it’s going to ricochet,” Nevins added.

The crime-drama series has been renewed for a couple of seasons more and the Showtime head revealed that the 8th season might be the series finale. But much emphasis was put on “might” as there’s a chance for Dexter to extend.

The crime-drama show was picked up for two more seasons last November and the Showtime president David Nevins has declared that Dexter may permanently conclude on Season 8.

But the countdown to the series finale just might be extended as Nevins recently expressed the “possibility” of a 9th season. During the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) tour, he announced: “This is the likely endpoint, but…plans could change.”

Nevins further added that the recent season six finale would prove to be a brilliant jump-off point for a story arc. “I think there’s a very clear trajectory now of where they’re going,” he explained. “I’ve been pushing to shake up the formula a little bit. I think there should be fundamentally different dynamics now.”

There were speculations that the recent divorce of stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, who are both the leading characters, might have affected the fate of the series. However, Carpenter asserted how they’ve always been professional enough to set their personal matters aside for the show.

The showrunner disclosed that it was in the early days of the show that the writers first talked about Deborah (played by Jennifer Carpenter) having romantic feelings for Dexter (played by Michael C Hall) her brother. He further stated that the storyline has always been an aspect of Deborah’s personality.

“The writers have been talking about this idea in their room, I believe, from at least second season,” Buck told reporters.

“It just seemed like those feelings blended well with Deborah’s personality that she was romantically attracted to her brother and she wasn’t even aware of it. This is something we would always talk about and we just decided that this is the right time to sort that issue out.

Recently he stated that he doesn’t think things can possibly work out fine for Dexter in the end, further stating that at the moment he remains unsure of how the series will conclude.

In November Dexter got renewed for 2 additional seasons. The sixth season of the show was concluded recently.

The duo went their separate ways in Dec. 2010 after being married for less than 2 years. Their divorce was concluded earlier this month.

The actress told reporters: “It’s imperative that actors keep their private lives private. I would like all Dexter fans to know that the series is and has always been supreme.

“We have constantly done an excellent job of safeguarding it and one another. We play key roles in one another’s lives and that will not change. Our friendship is strong and genuine and as far as I know, things will always be that way.”

Carpenter also disclosed that the show’s success over the years has surprised her, stating: I believe I am possibly the only member of cast filming the pilot believing that the show would not be successful, because I found it difficult believing that the audience would be drawn to a serial killer, I did not see the network promoting him either. But it turns out they were the clever the ones.”

Recently Scott Buck Dexter showrunner disclosed that writers deliberated on season six’s main plotline twist for many years.

“I’d love to jump on Modern Family.

“I think that would be a lot of fun. I can’t imagine anyone in the world who wouldn’t want to just hang out on that set for a day.” she told the magazine.

Carpenter also revealed she never planed to land a long-term role on Dexter given that she had always been more interested in films.

She said: “I never thought that I would be so attracted to television, but I don’t think gigs like Dexter come along too often.

“I love that there’s a beginning, middle and end to a film and you can craft what the whole journey is going to look like.

“I [also] love the whole open-endedness of television. I feel like I hear a lot of actors say this – but I know why – you just want to work with really great people. I just want to be with great teachers.

“If that means I’m in a horror film with good teachers, I’ll do another horror film. But I would love to branch out and do more comedy or just more straight dramas.”

Carpenter has recently divorced her husband and co-star on Dexter Michael C Hall. They had been married for two years.

Several viewers may think this will compensate for an extremely slack, disorganized, unexciting season. This is most likely what the show’s execs are banking on, as water coolers, message boards and sites will presently be filled with discussions of the direction things will take in the seventh season.

But it’s definitely not every fan that’s cheering because it appears the show is about to take a new, thrilling direction. Many fans cannot simply shake off how things got to this level.

The season was a total mess. One example from the last episode: Travis is so close to Harrison within Dexter’s apartment, but instead of taking hold of him, he went into the kid’s pageant where he carried out the deed. Why? For the simple reason that it was what the script demanded.

That kind of logical leap, that sort of despairing effort to stretch out the season, littered practically each episode.

Therefore, there is actually no purpose in over-evaluating this episode. Just like all other episodes it was highly predictable and clumsy. And it’s not actually what anybody will be discussing tomorrow. It’s difficult to believe anybody is concerned about LaGuerta’s talk of rooftop knowledge; what happens to Travis Marshall; and Batista and Quinn’s senseless wrangling, which seemed like an indication from the show’s writers that apart from Dexter nothing else matters (the duo had a fight, Batista made attempts to get Quinn relocated, and what came out if it… nothing. It was merely Quinn informing Batista that he will not be relocated).

The present is what everyone will be chatting about.

The fact that it happened at last is heartening. It will be interesting to find out how the series will deal with this disclosure going forward.

However, the manner by which the show reached this point is quite outrageous. Also incredible is why the writes decided to introduce the repulsively ill-advised concept that Deb has romantic feelings towards Dexter. It seems they could not think of any other way for her to come to the church. Since she just had to let her sibling know her feelings at that moment?

Also, did the writers really have little confidence in the Dexter/Deb relationship the way it had been designed that they chose to bring up this unmanageable plotline because they believe the disclosure will now impact more on Deb? Everyone that has followed the series right from the start will find this logically insulting.

The show has focused mainly on the Dexter and Deb relationship. They have related as sister and brother in every way conceivable. That relationship has been a stimulating one, and it’s quite unique as far as female/male relationship on TV is concerned. It was also very well portrayed. The love between the pair was obvious and there was simply no need to introduce an incestuous dimension to it.
